Unhinged Art showcases contemporary talent in the heart of Liverpool New space for local artists opens in Gostins Arcade

Some of the best alternative contemporary art currently being created in Liverpool is to be showcased at a new gallery and shop opening in the heart of the city.

Unhinged Gallery and Art Space is the brainchild of web developer Daniel Yeoman, who is diversifying from his online expertise into creating a brand new bricks and mortar space for artists in Gostins Arcade in the Gostins Building on Hanover Street.

Specialising in art that is different to the norm, Unhinged provides a physical shop window for local artists and an opportunity for people to discover new talent and buy contemporary art at affordable prices.

Adopted Scouser Daniel, moved to Merseyside 12 years ago to work. He said: “Working as a web developer in Liverpool put me in touch with some very talented designers, who just weren’t getting the representation or exposure they deserved.

“I wanted to change all that, and when a space become available in Gostins Arcade, I realised I could create a unique new space for art in the city. Unhinged is different to other galleries as we seek out artists who are not mainstream, and we work with a number of passionate people who are creating their art alongside working in full time jobs.”

The Unhinged Gallery is launching with an exhibition featuring the six artists Daniel currently represents, who bring together some diverse and challenging styles: the robot cityscapes created by Blacksoup; the gothic glamour of Abi Booth; the surrealism of Bob; Sophie Green’s superheroes; John Whitelaw’s intricate designs; and Joe Vassie’s paintings and pen and ink illustrations.

Six exhibitions are planned for 2015, with local artists being joined by occasional visiting international talent that shares the Unhinged ethos.

Daniel is making the move into his first gallery venture after previously promoting the artists he works with via the Unhinged website at www.unhinged-art.co.uk. The site has proved to be an effective outlet to sell and showcase what it happening in Liverpool’s alternative contemporary art scene to a worldwide audience.

“But sometimes, to truly appreciate a piece of work, you really need to see it in the flesh,” said Daniel.

“Unhinged Gallery and Art Space gives us the opportunity to wow people with some of the fantastic work that’s being created in Liverpool.

“Not many galleries in the city sell affordable contemporary art, but Unhinged gives art fans and collectors the chance to snap up something unique, while supporting home-grown talent with the potential to make a big splash in the contemporary art world.”

Unhinged Gallery and Art Space at 1 Gostins Arcade opens for business on Monday 17thNovember. For a previews of some of the work that will be on display, check out the website at www.unhinged-art.co.uk.
