DAVID LLOYD LEISURE LAUNCHES THE SUFFERFEST

Video-based indoor cycling classes featuring the world’s top races

David Lloyd Leisure is exclusively launching The Sufferfest, creator of the highly acclaimed video-based indoor cycling programme that is followed by enthusiasts across the world, in-club to transform the indoor cycling experience for its members.

A high intensity interval training programme (HIIT), The Sufferfest has just launched at David Lloyd Southampton and will roll out to selected additional clubs over the coming months.

The Sufferfest has been developed by world-class cycling coaches and is driven by synchronised soundtracks, creative story lines and officially licensed footage from the world's biggest races, including the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, the UCI World Championships and Paris-Roubaix.

The videos feature on-screen instructions, enabling instructors to engage more with participants and provide individualised coaching. The classes can also be run virtually without an instructor, allowing members to utilise the programme even during non-scheduled class times.

The Sufferfest programme comprises 17 different videos that cater for all tastes and abilities, ranging from group exercise enthusiasts to seasoned cyclists and triathletes - with new videos added to the collection every three months.

David Lloyd Leisure, Europe’s premier health, sports and leisure group, is the first national chain in the UK to launch the workout series as part of an exclusive agreement with The Sufferfest, and the programme will launch in club studios and gym Wattbike zones to enhance David Lloyd Leisure’s group cycling offering.

Michelle Dand, David Lloyd Leisure’s group health and fitness manager, said: “We’re thrilled to be the first nationwide health club operator in the UK to be exclusively partnering with The Sufferfest to offer our members this exciting and inspiring programme, which has been taking the indoor cycling world by storm.

“David Lloyd Leisure recognises that cycling is seeing tremendous growth in popularity both as a sport and as a way of staying active, which is why we are investing significantly in innovative solutions to keep our classes fresh and challenging with the aim of helping our members achieve their health and fitness goals – whether it’s a personal best on the track or getting into shape.

“Every video features bespoke cycling workouts aimed at achieving great results, on screen instructions and incredible footage from the world’s best races, providing a perfect blend of motivation, guidance and entertainment for riders of all abilities. Members will lose themselves in the drama, excitement and adrenaline of world-class bike racing!”

David McQuillen, The Sufferfest CEO, commented: “Indoor group cycling has remained the same for too long – the days of staring at an instructor are over.  By bringing professional bike-racing video and our creative storylines into the studio, we’ve created an immersive, effective experience unlike anything indoor cyclists have ever seen.  The feeling of riding with the best cyclists in the world is exhilarating.

“We’re delighted to partner with David Lloyd Leisure – a true leader and pioneer in group fitness – as they bring Sufferlandria to their members in the UK."
