Students and recent graduates have just days left to enter Sharp’s #GetItDownOnPaper competition to win a one month paid internship at Sharp Laboratories of Europe, Oxford. To enter the competition, students simply need to sketch their idea for the home of the future, then take a photo of the sketch and share it on Twitter with the hashtag #GetItDownOnPaper. The competition closes on 25 July 2014.

Sharp today announces that two prominent members of the European design industry will be helping to judge entries. Michael Thomson and Eddie Walker will join Sharp scientists and Ian Thompson, Managing Director at Sharp Laboratories of Europe, to choose a winner.

Michael Thomson (director of Design Connect) has extensive experience working in the design industry throughout Europe. Trained in the UK and Germany, Michael has worked with regional and national design promotion bodies and governments, notably, The Bureau of European Design Associations, ICSID Board, EU Commission European Design Leadership Board and International Advisory Committee for Seoul World Design Capital 2010. Now the director of Design Connect, Michael shapes and facilitates design-led strategy workshops and design management strategies for many international clients.

Eddie Walker, Head of Partnerships and a member of the senior management team at the Design Council, is a qualified design manager having worked with several international design associations. Eddie is passionate about integrating the modern principles of design into business and using the process of design to tackle complex social issues. Today, he leads on the development of strategic partnerships for the Design Council, in the UK and internationally, with organisations across government, public, private and third sectors. As an independent charity, the Design Council is an authoritative and challenging voice on the role and practice of design.

Ian Thompson, MD of Sharp Laboratories of Europe, says: “We’re thrilled that Michael and Eddie are joining us at Sharp Laboratories to help pick a winning design for the home of the future. This is an amazing opportunity for someone passionate about design to get in front of some leading industry figures and spend a month in a world class laboratory. Make sure you enter!”

The winner will be announced on Sharp’s blog, www.HumansInvent.com, on August 1 2014 with the placement beginning on August 18 2014 for one month.
