Ofsted has praised the “high level of quality care and attention” provided by staff at Doncaster’s Pinewood Avenue children’s home, and rated it as ‘Good overall’ in a report published this week.

The home is operated by Doncaster Children’s Services Trust which is the first children’s social care organisation in the country to be run independently from a local authority. The Trust was set up last year following an agreement with the government and Doncaster Council with a remit to pioneer new, dynamic ways to provide outstanding care to local children and families.

Pinewood Avenue children’s home can accommodate up to five young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

The inspector praised the staff’s enthusiasm and skill in supporting children in their care and also commented on the way they were encouraged both by their managers and each other. The inspector was particularly impressed by the way staff nominated one another for a new ‘employee of the month’ scheme.

Chief Executive of the Trust, Paul Moffatt, said: “I am very pleased that Ofsted has recognised how well our Pinewood Avenue team works together. One of my top priorities is to build a confident, stable staff team at the Trust so we can give the best possible support to the children and families in Doncaster.”

Pinewood Avenue is the second of the Trust’s children’s homes to achieve ‘Good overall’ from Ofsted this year.
