Competition for fans of photography and professionals: from 1st December, hikers and cyclists can upload their most beautiful photos of the E1 or R1 routes via www.e1r1-photoaward.eu. There are prizes with a total value of around €50,000 to be won.

Earlier this year, WALK, the competence centre for hiking in Detmold, created the E1|R1 Photo Award. With the launch of submissions, the first international photo competition for the E1 European Long-Distance Path and the Euroroute R1 is now entering the decisive rounds.

From now, ambitious amateur photographers and professionals can upload their most beautiful and spectacular photos along the E1 hiking route from Nordkapp (Norway) to South Italy and the R1 cycling route from Boulogne-sur-Mer to St. Petersburg, via London, over www.e1r1-photoaward.eu. As the technical implementation will be done in cooperation with Europe’s largest photo book manufacturer, CEWE, Oldenburg, both competitions can also be reached via contest.cewe-fotobuch.de. Photos can be submitted in four categories: Culture and Landscape, Man and Nature, Heaven and Earth, and Animals and Nature.

The international E1|R1 Photo Award is supported by the German Hiking Association (DWV) and the European Ramblers’ Association (ERA). Prizes with a total worth of around €50,000 are up for grabs and will be awarded by independent juries. Winners will be announced on the 118thGerman Hiking Day 2018 in Detmold. The deadline for submissions is 31stMarch 2018.

If you’re not really sure whether you were on the E1 or R1 or if your favourite hiking photo then meets the criteria, you can get more information on the website of the E1|R1 Photo Award. Under the menu option E1|R1, all the most important places along both routes in every country are listed.

About the E1|R1 Photo Award
The European Long-Distance Trail E1 from Nordkapp (Norway) to South Italy, and the European Bicycle Route R1 from Boulougne-sur-Mer to St. Petersburg, via London, only cross each other once. This crossing point is in the Teutoburg Forest and is both the cause and the namesake for the international E1|R1 Photo Award – created by the competence centre for hiking WALK in Detmold and supported by the German Hiking Association (DWV) and the European Ramblers’ Association (ERA). The aim is to use the art of photography to raise awareness of two of the most important routes for the many thousand hikers and cyclists in Europe.
The 1st international photo competition is calling for amateur and professional photographers, in separate competitions, to submit their most beautiful and spectacular photos of the direct surroundings of both routes. Prizes with a total worth of around €50,000 are up for grabs and will be awarded by independent juries on the 118th German Hiking Day 2018 in Detmold.
The submissions period for the photo competition begins on 1st December 2017 and ends on 31st March 2018. Fans of photography and professional photographers can submit their photos in four categories: Culture and Landscape, Man and Nature, Heaven and Earth, and Animals and Nature. Professional photographers must always submit a series of minimum 3 and maximum 4 subjects, whereas for the amateur award, only one can be submitted. With this international photo competition, we are directing our focus on to our hiking region, on to the land of the Hermann, on to hiking and cycling throughout Europe, and bringing the two first European long-distance paths more prominently into the public consciousness.
