Business Travelers Adopt Egencia Mobile Apps at Record Rates

Company reports significant increase in mobile app usage as it launches new mobile flight exchange feature for U.S. travelers as part of its commitment to modernize business travel

BELLEVUE, Wash.—(March 14, 2013)—Egencia®, the business travel division of the Expedia, Inc. group, today announced that business travelers are rapidly embracing its mobile solutions and is pleased to launch a new mobile flight exchange feature for U.S. travelers as part of its commitment to modernize business travel.

Egencia reports that usage of the company’s mobile apps by business travelers has increased more than 500 percent in the last 12 months. The company released its native iPhone app in the summer of 2011, followed by its mobile website and Android app in 2012.

Egencia’s investments in an integrated global technology platform and web services architecture are allowing the company to bring features to market faster, which in turn increases business traveler satisfaction. This unique approach enables features such as flight exchange to be made available via a mobile device, computer, or an Egencia travel consultant and provides a seamless experience for business travelers regardless of their preferences for self-service or agent-assisted transactions.

Egencia customer Laurie Miyake, travel administrator for Amada America, Inc., says, “Amada America’s service engineers are on the road traveling from one customer to the next, 5 days a week, and they regularly book hotel accommodations at the last minute—sometimes from the parking lot of a hotel.”

Egencia’s mobile solutions have assisted Amada’s travelers by saving them time. “Our service engineers no longer have to look for and log into a WiFi network—it’s one less thing to worry about,” adds Miyake. “They can concentrate on the job at hand and not where they will put their heads at night. Egencia has been a very positive upgrade for us and saved Amada money because engineers can make their own reservations without calling into an agent.”

The latest offering from Egencia, Mobile Flight Exchange, allows travelers the ability to quickly exchange flights, from 26 airline partners, directly from their mobile devices including smartphones and tablets.

Egencia’s Mobile Flight Exchange is easy-to-use and gives users the ability to ‘change a flight, pay for it and go’ all from the palm of their hands. Multi-destination and enroute ticket exchanges are supported. The mobile solution includes the same features and functions as Egencia’s Online Flight Exchange so there is nothing new for travelers to learn.

With Egencia Mobile Flight Exchange, travelers can exchange their tickets prior to check-in from a mobile device of choice by simply clicking on the flight exchange icon, selecting a flight to change, and performing a search based on several options: departing from, date of departure, or destination.

Egencia Mobile Flight Exchange is available now to all Egencia customers in the U.S. and accessible from Egencia apps on the iOS and Android platform as well as via mobile web for all devices.
