Emergency Nurses Association Launches Online Course in Advanced Trauma Nursing

Interactive learning modules review complex trauma case studies from the pre-hospital setting through resolution

Jan. 16, 2015 – The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) today announced the availability of its newest online education product for emergency nurses: Course in Advanced Trauma Nursing (CATN). CATN is a course designed for experienced emergency nurses, and offers an advanced critical thinking and clinical decision-making curriculum​ centered on evidence-based knowledge.

The course includes six case scenarios, ranging from a motor vehicle collision to a domestic violence incident. Participants review each complex trauma as the case unfolds from the primary survey to treatment across the care spectrum.

The new course, providing 7.3 contact hours, includes tools to anticipate complications early in the trauma continuum resulting in better patient outcomes. It features six interactive learning modules:

  • Mobility and Sensation
  • Cardiovascular Trauma​
  • Comorbidities
  • Ventilation, Gas Transport and Perfusion
  • Multiple Organ Dysfunction and Sepsis
  • Consciousness ​

CATN can be used in an individual or group learning environment. Participants will benefit from the pathophysiologic concepts and focus on long-term perspective of care.

CATN joins ENA’s suite of educational products widely adopted by the emergency nursing community. Some of ENA’s existing educational offerings include:

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
  • Geriatric Emergency Nursing Education (GENE)
