Anne Manton, PhD, PMHNP-BC, FAEN, FAAN, selected to oversee industry-leading journal

(August 28, 2014) - The Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) today announced the appointment of Anne Manton, PhD, PMHNP-BC, FAEN, FAAN, as Editor-in-Chief of the Association’s Journal of Emergency Nursing (JEN). Manton has served as the Journal’s interim editor-in-chief since September.

Manton, who now specializes in psychiatric and mental health care, brings extensive emergency nursing experience to this role, as well as decades of involvement with ENA. She served as president of the Association in 1998, and was previously a contributing editor to JEN.

Since being named interim Editor-in-Chief, Manton has led several initiatives improving the quality and accessibility of JEN. A more comprehensive manuscript reviewer selection process is now in place, along with a robust review panel, including the addition of two statistician reviewers. Manton is also striving to provide greater exposure for online-only articles.

“As the ENA board looked at the future of JEN and how it fits into ENA’s strategic plan, it was evident that Dr. Manton not only has the expertise to elevate the Journal, but has already made substantial contributions since she began serving as the interim editor,” said ENA president Deena Brecher, MSN, RN, APN, ACNS-BC, CEN, CPEN. “Her clinical and editorial expertise, leadership skills and involvement with ENA provide a solid foundation for continuing to produce a Journal with the highest level of editorial excellence.”

In addition to her work with JEN, Manton is also a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner at Cape Cod Hospital and a Nurse Planner for Western Schools.

JEN is the official peer-reviewed journal of ENA, and reaches more emergency nurses, emergency/trauma departments and emergency department managers of any journal. Coverage includes original, evidence-based practice and professional research and updates from the field.
