NASHVILLE, Tenn. May 27, 2011 – Fast growing email marketing company Emma announced today that it has been named one of the 2011 Top Small Company Workplaces by Inc. magazine and Winning Workplaces. One of 50 companies nationally to be recognized, Nashville-based Emma was the only Tennessee business to make the list.

Founded in 2003, the annual contest recognizes small and mid-sized companies that attribute their business success to outstanding workplace cultures and engaged employees who deliver bottom-line results. Emma was selected out of 350 award applicants. Contest winners are featured in Inc.’s June issue and on the magazine’s website.

“We’ve built a great team – now 100 and counting – and a strong culture that, alongside the Emma brand, may be our most tangible of intangible assets,” said Clint Smith, co-founder and CEO. “We respect each other’s talents and contributions, and we enjoy pursuing challenges together. We believe that if two brains are better than one, then two Emma brains can do something ridiculously outstanding. We are truly honored to receive this award that recognizes our entire Emma team.”

Known for its entrepreneurial corporate culture that encourages all employees to contribute to the company’s success, Emma’s reputation as an attractive workplace was highlighted earlier this spring when the Nashville Business Journal named the company a “Best Place To Work.”

Senior sales associate David Weintraub, who has been with Emma for three years, says working at the company “feels like winning the lottery.”

“It's just an incredible company,” he said, “For one thing, change is embraced here instead of avoided. We are constantly evaluating how we could do things better in order to stay on top, and everybody is encouraged to be a part of moving Emma forward. People’s ideas are taken seriously, no matter what your job is, and no one is unapproachable. Everyone’s door is always open.”

Emma’s founding vision was to take something that is complex and out of reach to most people and make it simple and available to anyone. This no-nonsense approach naturally carried over to the workplace, said Sara McManigal, who heads up people development for Emma.

“We hire uniquely talented people. As they engage within Emma’s culture, they bring their distinct feelings, interests, intuitions and everything else that makes us human,” she said. “Then we do what we can to remove any hurdles that might get in their way as they do great things."
