Dads of all ages are being invited to start their engines and drive down to Brodsworth Hall & Gardens, near Doncaster, this Father’s Day as the site welcomes around 140 classic cars for a nostalgic look at historic automobiles!

Amongst the cars taking part – which range from vintage Rolls Royces to more recent Ford XR3is – will be a vehicle with a special connection to Brodsworth Hall, having belonged to its last owner, Sylvia Grant-Dalton. The 1924 Humber 8/18 was purchased by the Grant-Dalton family new in 1924 and was driven by Sylvia for ten years, before it was parked in a barn at Brodsworth Hall where it remained until 1973 – at the mercy of the barn’s rodent and chicken population.

The current owner is Mr Perry from Wakefield, who bought the car in a very run down condition in 1973 as a renovation project which he undertook with his son, and spent two years restoring it to its former glory. The original four cylinder engine still works perfectly, and with a little annual maintenance, the vehicle has been taken part in rallies and events around the country for the last 37 years.

“This event gives owners of any kind of classic car of any age a chance to show off their vehicle, and it is always fantastic to see how many different types of car arrive on the day, but this Humber has such a special connection to the Hall that we are delighted to see it return each year,” comments event manager, Jon Hogan. “Everything from the bodywork to the engine itself, and even the original tools which were included in this ‘luxury’ model are pristine – no mean feat when you see the photographs of how it looked when it was loaded onto a trailer prior to its renovation!”

Other notable vehicles taking part include a 1911 steam-powered car, which enjoyed an outing earlier this month when it transported King George V and Queen Mary up to Brodsworth Hall’s during the Jubilee Weekend recreation of the King’s visit to South Yorkshire in 1912.

The event runs from 12 noon until 4.30pm, with Brodsworth Hall’s grounds open from 10.00am to 5.30pm. The Hall itself is open from 1.00pm to 5.00pm. Admission prices, including access to the gardens, Servant’s Wing and play area, are £5.70 for adults, £5.10 for concessions and £3.40 for children. Admission including entry to the Hall is £9.30 for adults, £8.40 for concessions and £5.60 for children. Please note that all classic car spaces have been booked; there will be no admission for cars who turn up on the day without prior registration.
