Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 April 2012

The Eye of York’s most famous landmark, Clifford’s Tower, is set to be besieged by dragons throughout the weekend of 21 & 22 April, when the site becomes the training ground for dragon hunters in a fun homage to the Patron Saint of England, St. George.

A number of dragon models will be hidden around the former keep ofYorkCastlefor the weekend, with young visitors challenged to track them all down before they start to distress any visiting damsels, with each successful hunter receiving a certificate and prize sticker to wear with pride as a sign of their hunting skills!

“St George’s Day was always an important celebration during medieval times, when people would feast and play games – a break from the daily hard labour,” says regional events manager, Jon Hogan. “Our own English Heritage St.George will be up at Richmond Castle fighting an 8ft tall dragon, so we’re hoping the young visitors to Clifford’s Tower will help us to track down the pesky beasts that have lodged here in York, and possibly stand guard on our ramparts overlooking the rest of the city to warn us if they see any sign of other dragons approaching!”

The trail runs each day from 10.00am to 6.00pm at Clifford’s Tower. Admission prices are £4.00 for adults, £3.60 for concessions and £2.10 for children, with a family ticket available for just £10.40. For more information, please call 01904 646940 or visit www.english-heritage.org.uk/cliffords
