Halloween family fun at Stokesay Castle

A medieval castle with a legendary treasure hidden somewhere within the grounds – where could be better than Stokesay Castle, near Ludlow, to celebrate the Festivals of All Saints and All Souls this October half term?

From Wednesday 24 to Sunday 28 October, then again from 31 October until 4 November, Stokesay Castle will become Shropshire’s favourite pumpkin patch, with models of the orange gourds hidden around the castle and its dry moat in a fun Halloween-themed family fun trail, with a treat awaiting all those who complete it!

“Although Stokesay Castle is one of the smallest castles in the country – often described as a fortified manor house – it still has its own share of supernatural stories linked to it,” comments site manager, Kate Potter.   “From the giants living in the nearby countryside who stored their treasure here, to the shadowy man who has been seen sitting in the solar, there are some wonderful legends and tales linked to the castle – and who knows, as the shadows lengthen this October, we may well have some new sightings to add to Stokesay’s story…”

The Halloween Family Fun Trail runs from 10.00am to 5.00pm each day. Admission prices for Stokesay Castle are £6.00 for adults, £5.40 for concessions, £3.60 for children or £15.60 for a family ticket (two adults and up to three children). English Heritage members get in free.

Stokesay Castle is open Wednesday to Sunday until 4 November (10.00am to 5.00pm), and then open weekends (10.00am to 4.00pm) throughout the winter.
