Baltimore Author Stephanie Draven Wrote Bestseller at a NaNoWriMo Event
Local author with national following offers tips on writing Romance & Sensual Tension at Ukazoo Books at the kick-off of the goal oriented month-long project to write a novel. National Novel Writing Month runs from November 1-30 and is thirty days and nights of literary abandon.
Can the writing marathon known as the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) help you get published? Maryland's Stephanie Draven says yes and she has the book to prove it. Her latest bestseller, a romantic comedy set during a political campaign, was drafted in a single month with the help of the NaNoWriMo community. Now she'll help others write their own stories on November 4, from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. where Ukazoo Books is hosting the NaNoWriMo event “Turn Up the Heat."
Draven will help lead budding novelist in writing sprints that will hone their skills and build their word count, a necessity if you are going to compete in the NaNoWriMo month-long project where the goal is to write a novel, 50,000 words, in a month.
Draven is currently promoting her latest Entangled Publishing novel, In Bed with the Opposition, a politically charged romance with a lot of humor.
“Working with budding writers is a blast,” Draven says. “I like to say that I write very smart books for very bad girls. My work is often described as sexy, quirky, and fast-paced. I owe all of that to the tricks I learned during National Novel Writing Month so I can't wait to share what I know with others."
“If you have ever said 'one day, I’d like to write a novel,' then November 2012 is your month,” Draven adds.
Draven is joined by fellow Entangled author, Laura Kaye. Also sharing the day’s festivities are Eliza Knight and Christi Barth.
National Novel Writing Month is an annual (November) novel writing project that brings together professional and amateur writers from all over the world. At the Ukazoo, “Turn Up the Heat” event there will be chocolate for all, and prizes for the highest word count after each sprint. Ukazoo Books located at 730 Dulaney Valley Road, Towson, Maryland.
About Stephanie Draven
Stephanie Draven is a bestselling and award-winning and RITA-nominated author of historical, paranormal, and contemporary romance. Her newest novel with Entangled Publishing, In Bed with the Opposition, is a mix of humor, sex-appeal, combined with the rush of a zany political campaign inspired by the career of Baltimore legend William Donald Schaefer. Her next project is historical erotic romance set in the 1920s at the height of the Jazz Age.
Both projects are departures from her more serious Greek mythology-inspired series for Harlequin's Nocturne line, which garnered critical praise for its originality and awareness of social issues. (Dark Sins & Desert Sands won the 2012 SWIRL award for excellence in multi-cultural romance literature. Siren Song won CataRomance's Reviewers Choice Award. And Poisoned Kisses was nominated by Romantic Times for Best First Series.)
Stephanie lives in Baltimore with her favorite nocturnal creatures–three scheming cats and her devoted husband. She also writes historical fiction as Stephanie Dray and has a series of novels from Berkley Books featuring Cleopatra’s daughter, the most recent of which, Song of the Nile, won the Golden Leaf Award for best Novel with Romantic Elements.
