Envivio Muse 4K HEVC and Envivio Guru Applauded for ‘Simplicity Over Other Solutions’ and ‘Ability to Improve Service Quality in Today’s Complex Headends’

South San Francisco, CALIF., September 18, 2014 – Adding to its continuously growing recognition for innovation in video software, Envivio (NASDAQ: ENVI) today announced that two of its products received outstanding scores in the 2014 Broadband Technology Report (BTR) Diamond Technology Reviews.  Judged by a panel of engineering executives from top U.S. cable operators, including Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Charter, Bright House Networks, Suddenlink and others, Envivio’s Muse™ 4K HEVC software and Envivio’s Guru™ video management system were awarded 4 and 3.5 out of 5 diamonds, respectively.

Specific comments from the judges included, "The Muse 4K Ultra HD is one solid 4K/ HEVC encoder. Such automated monitoring and control of headend components delivering video services for all resolutions and bit rates, and associated reporting, could improve service quality in today’s increasingly complex headends.”

Another judge commented, “The Envivio Guru provides operators with a level of simplicity over other solutions with its ability to automate applications at the service level or select channels versus being limited to individual devices.”

Conducted annually, the Diamond Reviews honor the top products in the industry, with judging based on criteria including unique technology/application, innovation, ease-of-use, efficiency, reliability and contribution to profitability.

Envivio’s Vice President - Products and Solutions Boris Felts commented, “We are pleased the industry’s pay TV technology officers rated our products highly.  As a widely deployed video software solutions provider, we have vast experience and continue to lead the industry in innovative solutions for video processing, delivery and personalization.  We look forward to entering more of our latest technology innovations in future reviews, including Envivio Nuage, the world’s most advanced end-to-end cloud-based video solution,” he added.

Product Information

Muse Ultra HD software is designed to encode either one 4Kp60 (progressive video at 60 frames per second) or two simultaneous 4Kp30 (30 frames per second) video signals in HEVC format using the Envivio G5 server. These services can be delivered to Ultra HD-capable devices, including the latest generation of set top boxes and Ultra HD TV sets.

Ultra HD provides stunning video quality with four times as many pixels as today’s 1080p HDTV, twice the frame rate, and a broader color range with the new BT 2020 standard. The HEVC standard reduces bandwidth consumption compared to MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) by 30 to 50 percent, improving the video experience and reducing cost of operations for both HD and Ultra HD primary screen services and existing mobile or over-the-top (OTT) TV services. Envivio’s software-based architecture radically simplifies the migration from MPEG-2 or H.264 to HEVC, enabling a seamless transition to the new technology.

As video services over broadband and mobile networks converge with traditional broadcast services, Envivio Guru™ network management system enables broadcasters and network operators to reduce complexity and operational costs and ensure the highest quality of service (QoS) for customers.

Originally designed to monitor and manage any network device, the latest Envivio Guru extension provides an innovative operator interface to supervise all video services at once, and zoom on each signal flow. This new interface makes Guru the ideal management platform for next generation converged video head-ends and distribution networks.

Envivio Muse and Guru will be on display at SCTE’s Cable-Tec Expo taking place in Denver, Sept. 22-25, at booth #259.
