Dr. Jan Uddenfeldt awarded KTH Prize

Dr. Jan Uddenfeldt awarded KTH Prize Dr. Jan Uddenfeldt, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Ericsson, has been awarded the prestigious KTH Prize by the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. Dr. Uddenfeldt is awarded the prize "for both his operative skills and the important contributions of the technological development within telecommunications," according to the jury's motivation. These include "the development of the theoretical and practical grounds for digital radio technology, which today's mobile communications systems such as GSM and UMTS are built upon. He is also one of the driving forces behind the standardization process within the industry." Dr. Uddenfeldt is one of the key factors behind Ericsson's successful development as the leader of mobile telecommunications. Ericsson's achievements have created a solid foundation for the Swedish IT wonder, and is ultimately connected to the company's capacity to drive the technical evolution. Dr. Uddenfeldt has been with the company since 1978, and as been heavily nd involved in the development of both 2 generation wireless technologies, rd such as GSM, as well as 3 generation Wideband CDMA and EDGE technologies. He holds a Ph.D. in telecommunications from the Royal Institute of Technology, where he was adjunct Professor in the mid-1980's. He also holds an honorary Doctor's degree from the Technical Faculty, University of Lund. In 1997, he was awarded the Eduard Rhein Foundation Technology Prize for the innovation of GSM. Dr. Uddenfeldt is also a member of Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.
