Ericsson receives contract for LMDS in Poland

Ericsson receives contract for LMDS in Poland Ericsson has been selected by Telekomunikacja Polska S.A, the major operator in Poland, to supply MINI-LINK BAS, 26 GHz Point to Multipoint system for wireless broadband access. Ericsson and Telekomunikacja Polska S.A (TPSA) have signed a contract for equipment and services for initial deployment of a wireless broadband access system in Warsaw. Ericsson's MINI-LINK BAS (Broadband Access System) will be used to give new business customers access to high speed data communication, Internet and applications, as well as provide present customers with back up to their existing data communication networks. Initial deployment will cover Warsaw. The deployment and selection of Ericsson's MINI-LINK BAS solution is in line with TPSA's current move from circuit switched to ATM based packet switched traffic. TPSA is the largest national fixed net operator in Poland with 90 percent of the telephone subscribers. The selection of Ericsson and its MINI-LINK BAS as the wireless broadband access solution came following a lengthy and thorough evaluation process of a number of potential suppliers and includes the successful completion of a field trial demonstrating full integration with the TPSA ATM network. "This contract is a confirmation of Ericsson's ability to deliver a future proof, true broadband wireless access system with the reliability, volumes and capabilities new businesses are asking for," says Mikael Bäckström, Vice President, Ericsson Microwave Systems. "These capabilities include, among others, the possibility to combine traditional leased lines with new IP connections providing symmetrical peak traffic rates at 10-20 Mbps." With the MINI-LINK BAS, Ericsson is the first company in the world to offer a true broadband wireless access point-to-multipoint LMDS (Local Multipoint Distribution Systems) system, providing end-users with symmetrical or asymmetrical services at up to 37 Mbps, fixed or dynamically allocated between users. Ericsson is the leading communications supplier, combining innovation in mobility and Internet in creating the new era of Mobile Internet. Ericsson provides total solutions covering everything from systems and applications to mobile phones and other communications tools. With more than 100,000 employees in 140 countries, Ericsson simplifies communications for customers all over the world. The system allows for instance the ASP (Application Service Provider) market to really take off with advanced services, increased performance, greater speed and lower cost. MINI-LINK BAS is the first wireless broadband access system that efficiently combines true broadband carrier-class services with F-DCA (Fast Dynamic Capacity Allocation) between end-users, maximizing revenues from available spectrum. MINI-LINK BAS wireless broadband allows operators to have a cost- efficient and rapid start-up with the ability to offer services to new users within hours. MINI-LINK assures the reliability, availability and quality that business users have come to expect. MINI-LINK BAS is optimized to support next generation networks with carrier- class wireless services that efficiently combine bursty IP-based services - such as high-speed Internet and LAN-LAN interconnection - with established services, such as leased lines. It combines Ericsson's strengths in microwave access, IP and ATM technologies to provide cost-effective and reliable performance. Its open interfaces and standards mean that it can easily be integrated into other vendors' IP and ATM products, as well as with Ericsson's IP router family, scalable ATM switching line and business switches. ------------------------------------------------------------ This information was brought to you by BIT http://www.bit.se The following files are available for download: http://www.bit.se/bitonline/2000/08/17/20000817BIT01260/bit0001.doc http://www.bit.se/bitonline/2000/08/17/20000817BIT01260/bit0002.pdf
