Ericsson signs SDH contract in Ukraine

Ericsson signs SDH contract in Ukraine Ericsson has signed a contract for a Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) transmission backbone network with UKRTELECOM in Ukraine. The contract, valued at USD 30 million (SEK 255 million), makes Ericsson the main supplier for backbone network infrastructure in Ukraine. The contract is for an SDH network covering the southern and eastern parts of Ukraine. The SDH transmission backbone network will support long distance telecom services, including transit traffic to Russia, in what is considered to be one of Ukraine's largest industrial areas. The first phase of implementation will take place during the autumn of this year. The turnkey project includes management and synchronization solutions and will provide long distance transport systems. The system will be constructed based on optical cables supplied by Ericsson and a local manufacturer. UKRTELECOM is Ukraine's main telecom operator, providing 90 percent of local traffic in the country and 30 percent of international traffic. Ericsson offers a full transport network portfolio for established and new network operators. The portfolio includes solutions based on SDH, PDH (Plesiosynchronous Digital Hierarchy), as well as WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing). More than 100 operators of wireline networks in over 80 countries worldwide have already chosen transport network systems from Ericsson. Furthermore, the company has supplied its MINI-LINK wireless transport solutions to operators in more than 100 countries.
