Partnerships and consumer understanding key factors for industry growth says Ericsson CEO

Today, Carl-Henric Svanberg, President and CEO of Ericsson, addressed the industry at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France. In his keynote speech Carl-Henric Svanberg highlighted the importance of business partnerships and true consumer understanding for being a successful vendor.
"The vendor must work closely, as a committed business partner, to the operators from a very early stage," said Carl-Henric Svanberg. "To take a full business partner role the vendor needs broad competence and an extensive portfolio, global experience, end-to-end capabilities and state of the art technology."

"For every player in this industry, understanding the consumer is key to success. It is not only about understanding the advanced users. It is also about understanding how to attract new users. In order to assist our customers in their decision-making, we interview 14,000 consumers in ten countries every year."

"Together with our operators we need to develop solutions that attract the consumers and corresponding business models to drive minutes of use as well as revenues. Through the Ericsson Mobility World we are mobilizing application developers around the world."

"We want to reach, and to be reached wherever we are. Our vision is to bring broadband to the consumers' pocket and to offer reachability and ease-of-use services."

"It is a vision about communication needs, satisfied with advanced technology and it is encouraging to see that this vision is now becoming a reality. Seamless services are on every operators' agenda, infrastructure roll-out is happening, and 3G is taking off this year."

"We will see changed communications patterns. It is a paradigm shift that will have implications on how we, as human beings, interact."

"The crucial prerequisites for 3G are now in place. We have successfully established network standardization. Handsets are now available in large volumes and we have gained key learning's from the initial 3G roll-out, giving us competitive advantages going forward," ended Carl-Henric Svanberg.
