Telcel first in the world to boost efficiency and reliability with Ericsson's MSC Pool Solution
Telcel will immediately benefit from the increased capacity of the Ericsson softswitch network, and from the reduced time and effort needed for network planning and routine operation and maintenance.
Telcel's GSM/GPRS/EDGE network is growing rapidly and Ericsson's MSC (Mobile Switching Center) Pool technology is expected to make network expansions easier and faster as it avoids major reconfiguration and re-parenting activities.
Fredrik Alatalo, vice president, Product Area Mobile Core at Ericsson, says: "We are extremely proud to have achieved the world's first commercial implementation of this important new technology on time and to our customer's satisfaction. We are very grateful for the help and close cooperation of Telcel's technical staff in making this happen."
Ericsson was the first company in the world to deploy softswitch technology in both wireline and mobile networks. This world-first reiterates Ericsson's continued leadership in standards-compliant softswitch technology and its commitment to commercializing new innovations that improve its customers' competitive advantage.
Ericsson's Mobile Softswitch Solution is the world's most widely deployed softswitch architecture solution. It powers about 50 percent of all the mobile networks with softswitch architecture that are in full commercial service.
Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.

About Telcel, Mexico
If an MSC is out of service due to maintenance or failure, traffic is automatically distributed between the remaining MSCs in the pool, providing an "always up" service through network-level efficiency. Radio network equipment is configured towards an MSC Pool rather than an individual MSC. This makes network expansion much easier as pool capacity can be expanded simply by adding new MSCs to the pool and thus avoiding re-parenting and reconfiguration of core and radio network equipment.
Ericsson MSC Pool is fully compliant with 3GPP standards, enabling full support in multivendor networks.
