Full Spectrum Solutions, Inc. Brings VariLum LED Task Lamp to Market, Equipped with Dimming and Kelvin Temperature Controls

JACKSON, MICHIGANNovember 26th, 2014 – Full Spectrum Solutions, Inc., a leading manufacturer of home and office light therapy products, is now offering an LED desk lamp with brightness and color changing controls. “Our VariLum desk lamp is one of our most versatile offerings as the brightness of the lamp can be dimmed from full brightness down to five percent depending on how bright the user would like it to be,” explained Andrea Zink, Customer Service Representative at Full Spectrum Solutions, Inc. “Furthermore, it is equipped with a color changing switch that also allows the user to change the lighting temperature from three thousand up to six thousand kelvin. The lamp is very user-friendly in terms of how it can be adjusted.”

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a seasonal type of depression that affects up to 20 percent of Americans every fall and winter. Symptoms of winter-onset depression (SAD) usually begin in late fall or early winter and gradually diminish by summer. The disorder stems from a lack of exposure to natural sunlight, which is why most sufferers experience SAD during the fall and winter months. As a result of decreasing light levels, the pineal gland in the brain begins producing higher levels of melatonin, which is the hormone that induces sleep, and less serotonin, which has a major impact on mood.

Loss of motivation, a desire to oversleep, feeling fatigued, the inability to tolerate stress, a desire to avoid social contact, and change in eating habits are symptoms of SAD and can result in depression and weight gain. Full Spectrum Solutions, Inc. offers light therapy solutions to combat the onslaught of SAD.

“The VariLum lamp also features an Opaque Lens and a High Output Conical Lens that can be changed out depending on what the user is doing,” Zink commented. “Each lens is magnetic so they are easily interchangeable.” The VariLum Opaque Lens reduces eyestrain and glare, making reading, crafting or detailed oriented tasks much easier on your eyes while the High Output Conical Lens helps provide the user with 10,000 Lux at a comfortable distance of 12” or 5,000 Lux at a distance of 16”.

Studies show that light therapy is a natural and non-medical solution to treating depression caused by the absence of sunlight. Full Spectrum Solutions offers additional light therapy products such as BlueMax™ 70w desk and floor lamps and UltraLux® light boxes that provide 10,000 Lux (a measurement of light intensity) of full spectrum light that duplicates the visible wavelengths of sunlight and alleviates symptoms of SAD.

Scientists that study the effects of artificial daylight on the human eye have found that full spectrum lighting stimulates the eye’s photoreceptors and enhances the production of serotonin (mood hormone) and suppresses the level of melatonin (sleep hormone) in the brain, which results in a better sense of wellbeing for those that suffer from SAD.

“Because the VariLum lamp allows for color changing, and dimming, it truly is unlike any other lamp on the market today,” stated Zink. “The color control and Kelvin range helps regulate the circadium rhythms as this lamp brings the best of both light therapy and task lighting together allowing users to experience a full, rich experience in everyday lighting.”
