The starting shot has now been fired for the transformation of Långströmsgatan into the future Långströmsallén. Today, Balder’s CEO Erik Selin, together with the Real Estate Committee Chairman Jahja Zeqiraj, Jan Rinman from the Traffic Administration Office and Tornstaden’s CEO Erik Olofsson, have turned the first sod in the project.

“It feels really great to be able to contribute to development of the area, Hisingen and the entire city,” says Erik Selin. “Långströmsallén will be a green city district near to the centre.”

In 2012, Balder took over the management of the apartment buildings on Långströmsgatan, and since then has worked on plans to develop the residential area in the best way. Now with the start of construction, the plan for the entire project will be put into action. The first phase of the project to begin will be Triliten, with three tower blocks containing six floors with apartments ranging in size from studio to 3 bedrooms. The properties will be environmentally-rated according to Miljöbyggnad Silver level.

In total, Balder will provide approx. 500 apartments in newly produced apartment blocks. The existing apartment buildings will be renovated both externally and internally and all of the almost 600 existing apartments will receive a thorough facelift. Along with premises for shops and a comprehensive improvement of the area’s outdoor environment, the aim is that the whole of Långströmsallén should become an attractive and sustainable residential district for both existing and future tenants.

Långströmsallén is a key project in the Bostad2021 initiative, where the City of Gothenburg in collaboration with a number of developers will build 7,000 extra apartments in order to meet the growing city’s huge need for housing. The apartments shall be ready for occupation for Gothenburg’s 400th anniversary in 2021.

By moving Långströmsgatan and creating space for new development, the perception and feel of the district will change. Less suburban, more urban but at the same time it will be an extremely picturesque and inspiring outdoor environment offering open spaces for activities and relaxation. Meeting places, outdoor gym, playground and spacious laundry rooms are examples of how quality of life and social gatherings are built into the holistic concept.

Balder is also investing in an electric car pool in collaboration with Move About. Through the electric car pool, all residents are given the opportunity to drive in an environmental-friendly way at advantageous prices.

Preliminary occupation of the Triliten apartments is expected around year-end 2020.
