Fazer will make a donation to two universities to support Finnish university research. A donation of 100,000 euros each will be presented to the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry and to Hanken School of Economics.

Fazer wants to offer products and services, which enable a responsible way of life now and in the future. Universities are important business partners through their significant research and by educating future top professionals. With the donations made today, on 22 April 2015, Fazer wants to support academia in the food industry and in business studies as well as the continuity of research in Finland.

Grain technology is one of the areas within food sciences essential to Fazer. In addition to grains, studies focus on other legumes, which are important sources of vegetable protein. Fazer's target is, for instance, to increase, the amount of vegetable protein served at lunch restaurants, thereby promoting food production in accordance with principles of sustainable development.

“Donations are important for research and students. Knowledge about agriculture and forestry in the 21st century is high-tech, and part of the internationally renowned Finnish bioscience and technology know-how”, says Thomas Wilhelmsson, Chancellor of the University of Helsinki.

“We are convinced that in order to succeed in the future, Fazer and Finland will need top professionals in the fields of food and business sciences. This is why we are making this donation to two key universities”, says Christoph Vitzthum, President and CEO of Fazer Group.

Also in 2010, Fazer participated in Hanken's fundraising by donating 100,000 euros. Furthermore, Fazer has been a Premium Partner of Hanken for several years. Today's donation will deepen this cooperation even further.

“One of the cornerstones of our success is the mutual trust between Hanken and our students, alumni and external stakeholders, and we want to constantly develop our operations. Science is promoted by true interest in the subject. Cooperation with companies builds a bridge between theory and practice, and that is inspiring”, says Eva Liljeblom, Hanken's rector.

Family-owned Fazer has been part of Finnish lives for almost 125 years. Karl Fazer was one of the pioneers of the Finnish confectionery industry, and many generations of Finns have grown up enjoying Fazer's taste sensations. Finnish lifestyle, food culture and well-being have developed from one decade to the next and Fazer has been part of that journey.

“Finns are increasingly interested in everyday well-being and in the origin of food. People want to make responsible choices. This motivates us to study and create completely new products and services which offer inspiration for enjoyment and well-being”, says Christoph Vitzthum.
