Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki, Finland has received a donation of 100,000 euros from Fazer Group to the ongoing fundraising campaign HANKEN RETURNS. This is Fazer’s second donation to the campaign, which brings the donations to a total of 200,000 euros. With this donation, Fazer wants to support academic understanding in the field of economy and the development of research in Finland.

“We are very thankful for this additional donation and the fact that Fazer once again shows confidence in Hanken. Hanken and Fazer have had a continuous collaboration for a long time, which illustrates a good interaction between theory and practice. We are also very grateful for the opportunity to manage this donation as an investment for the future,” says Rector Karen Spens.

Fazer supported Hankens fundraising in 2010, 2015 and 2017 with donations of 100,000 each time. Moreover, Fazer has been Hankens partner in co-operation for many years. The current donation deepens this co-operation even further.

“It is our strong conviction that the future success of Fazer, and Finland overall, demands globally-minded, well-trained economists; this is why we support Hanken,” says President and CEO of Fazer Group Christoph Vitzthum.

Fazer is a family-owned company that has been part of the lives of Finns for over 125 years. Karl Fazer was one of the founders of the Finnish confectionery industry. Fazer aims to offer products and services that enable sustainable lifestyles, today and in the future. The success of Fazer was always built on Finnish work and professional skills as well as ways to discover new talent.

Fazer co-operates with different universities and research institutes. These include, for example, the University of Helsinki, the University of Eastern Finland and Aalto University in Finland and Uppsala SLU and Lund consortium in Sweden. Fazer has made donations to two universities in Finland to support Finnish academic research. In 2016, Fazer donated 100,000 euros to the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Agriculture. In 2015, Fazer donated 100,000 euros both to the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry and to the Hanken School of Economics. Fazer took part in Hanken’s fund raising already on 2010 with 100,000 euros as well. Fazer maintains partnership relations with the above mentioned and other research institutes, as well as health professionals, to study areas relevant to its offering.
