Building the future of HEL: world premiere and live implementation of Helsinki-Airport’s brand new long-haul expansion

Finavia experienced its most successful year in 2018. Helsinki Airport reached a new passenger record of 20 million in December 2018, and is getting ready to serve 30 million with the ongoing development programme worth over 1 billion euro. Helsinki Airport is now facing its next completion in the beginning of February 2019, when Aukio, the new central plaza and heart of the long-haul expansion of Helsinki Airport, will be opened.

We want to welcome representatives of the media to experience the new terminal facilities among the very first ones and follow the Aukio’s final implementation test, including 200 volunteer test passengers, live on site on 6th February 2019.

Programme:

9 am meeting at T2 departures hall, corner of WHS Smith, host Maija Ilvonen Finavia Communications

9-9.30 Short introductions and programme of the day

9.30 Transfer to gate area and onwards to Aukio

10-12 Live implementation and testing, possibility to interview and take photographs

Lunch at the Airport

13 event ends


After the testing and lunch, it is possible to arrange eg a terminal or apron tour or other aviation related depending on your interests. Finavia will cover one night accommodation near the airport to foreign journalists before the media event. Details will be sent to confirmed participants.

About Aukio and Helsinki Airport’s development programme:

Aukio will be the new iconic central plaza of Helsinki Airport’s non-Schengen area, with new restaurants, shops and services you will be able to see and test. Aukio will have State-of-the-art technological solutions in new security controls for arriving transfer passengers: digital signage and video guidance, queue measurement system and security Scanners for people screening. Aukio’s security controls will be able to serve 220 passengers per hour per lane with up to 83 % capacity increase, 4400 trays per hour and

75 screeners per hour

In total Aukio will bring 25,000 m2 of new passenger and baggage facilities to the airport. Aukio’s nature inspired design by PES-Architects is based on natural light meets the wooden elements creating a unique multipurpose-space for passengers and events and a video wall by Architects Davidsson Tarkela surrounding Aukio.
