In co-operation with 30 European opera houses, Opera Europa is launching the new OperaVision website, a direct continuation of the current The Opera Platform online service. The Finnish National Opera will broadcast three full-length productions on OperaVision. These include Finnish Jaakko Kuusisto’s Ice, which will have its world premiere in January 2019. The rest of the FNO productions to be shown on OperaVision will be announced later.

The Opera Platform, which has been live streaming opera from European opera houses, will become OperaVision from the 12thof October, 2017. The new online service can be found at www.operavision.eu. The launch of OperaVision was announced at an Opera Europa meeting in Parma on Thursday the 12th of October, and the website is already operational. The first broadcast on OperaVision will be Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande, streamed live from Komische Oper Berlin on Sunday the 15th of October.

Like its predecessor, the Opera Platform, OperaVision will offer live broadcasts from European opera houses. A total of 30 opera houses are taking part, including Komische Oper Berlin, Teatro Regio Torino, The Aix-en-Provence Festival, Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, Teatro Real Madrid, and the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet.

Opera Vision will put special emphasis on attracting young viewers, cultivating new audiences, nurturing the European cultural heritage, and developing the future of opera. It aims to showcase the genre of opera in all its diversity with regular broadcasts of different productions. Besides live streaming opera, OperaVision will feature ballet, concerts, operettas and musicals, as well as interviews, documentaries and other behind-the-scenes material. Opera Vision is supported by the European Community’s Create Europe programme, which will guarantee the operation of the service until December 2020.
