The Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE will transmit the performance online

All the performances of the Finnish National Ballet’s The Little Mermaid are sold out this spring. However, this highly popular ballet can be viewed online anywhere in the world on Friday 22 April. The Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE will transmit the performance live via Yle Klassinen’s website  at 18:50 Finnish time (UTC + 3 hours). The show will also be live-streamed to the FNOB’s Stage24 service. It will also be recorded for viewing at a later date.

In the choreography by the Finnish National Ballet’s Danish-born Artistic Director Kenneth Greve, the role of the Little Mermaid will be performed by étoile Tiina Myllymäki and that of the prince by étoile Michal Krčmář. Ville Mäki will play H.C. Andersen. The FNOB’s orchestra will be conducted by Mikhail Agrest. There will be an English translation of a Finnish commentary displayed in a special text window during the live stream webcast on Yle Klassinen’s website.

Live streaming and recordings are an integral part of the new online service rolled out by the Finnish National Opera and Ballet in January. It is designed to serve wider audiences free from the constraints of timetables and geographical location. All the transmissions and videos are available at Stage24, a service offered by oopperabaletti.fi free of charge. The FNOB’s partners in organising the transmission are the Finnish Broadcasting Company Yle and HSTV, the online service of Finland’s largest daily the Helsingin Sanomat. The FNOB is also partner of theoperaplatform.eu, a joint service offered by European opera houses and the French art channel Arte.
