Tool Care Tips

Report this content

Annual maintenance is key for keeping tools in tip-top shape for many years of hard work. Any tool that has nuts and bolts, screws, blades or chains requires cleaning and sharpening. Fiskars tools are made with quality materials and are designed to last with many carrying a lifetime warranty, but following the tips below will help the tools perform their best from season to season.

Cleaning

- Washing off dirt and sap build-up on the blades of tools helps prevent moisture build-up, which leads to rust.

Sharpening

- It’s recommended to sharpen blades at the end of each season. A flat file works well for the job when sharpening at the same angle as the blade.

Lubricating

- Joints and blades can be sprayed and wiped down using machine oil or grease. This seals the blades during the winter and adds another protection against rust.

Storing

- Storing tools in a cool, dry place helps keep them in their best condition.
