Cook-off Champion to Win a FiveStar Professional All-Gas Range and Other Great Prizes

FiveStar®, a division of Brown Stove Works, Inc., will again team with Lodge® Cast Iron and Martha White® this year to sponsor and host the 18thAnnual National Cornbread Cook-Off Competition, which will be held during the National Cornbread Festival on April 26-27 in South Pittsburg, Tenn.   This year’s event, which is scheduled to happen on Saturday, April 26, will again feature the 10 finalists for the competition cooking their original main dish cornbread recipe on a FiveStar range with the Cook-Off Champion taking home a FiveStar Professional 30-inch stainless steel, all-gas Range (a $3,250 value), a $5,000 cash prize and other great prizes from Martha White and Lodge Cast Iron.

“FiveStar is proud to be a part of the 18thannual National Cornbread Festival and its Annual Cornbread Cook-Off Competition, and we look forward to watching how these 10 home chefs can use the versatility, simplicity and performance of a FiveStar range to unlock their culinary potential and create their very own, unique version of a classic or modern cornbread dish,” said Jeff Essenburg, vice president of sales for FiveStar.

For this year’s competition, the Cook-Off Champion will win the latest 30-inch stainless steel, Vari-Flame™ Open Burner range from FiveStar.  This professional, all-gas range features a gas oven with an open-flame lower broiler and four open surface burners, with one of the burners containing FiveStar’s innovative Vari-Flame Open Burner design.  This “burner within a burner” design provides a consistent flame that can produce cooking temperatures as low as 400 BTUs for simmering purposes or as high as 14,000 BTUs for high output and quick boil times.

For this year’s competition, festival organizers received hundreds of original main dish recipes for consideration, with some of the entries coming from people living as far as Wisconsin and Maine.  Each recipe must be prepared with at least one package of Martha White Cornbread Mix and be cooked with Lodge Cast Iron cookware.

“Every April, 10 home chefs from different parts of the country will travel to the foothills of Southern Tennessee so they can showcase their original cornbread recipe and compete in one of the nation’s premier food cooking competitions, and this year’s finalists are no different,” said Beth Duggar, committee president for the National Cornbread Festival. “Being able to offer a cash prize along with a professional 30-inch stainless steel, all-gas range from FiveStar to the winner continues to be a strong draw for why people are entering our cooking competition.”
