Centenary celebrations for resident at The Poplars

A telegram from the Queen awaited a Maidstone resident as Dot Venner celebrated her 100thbirthday at The Poplars Care Centre in Tonbridge Road, with a tea party for friends and family.

Miss Venner’s niece and nephew, Jackie and David Makin, brought cake and champagne along to the party, with staff and fellow residents providing flowers and balloons for the special celebration.

“Just as Dot wished, she had a small celebration with her close family and friends to mark her 100thbirthday,” comments activities co-ordinator for The Poplars, Jackie Ash.  “She was especially pleased to receive her telegram from the Queen, and has made sure it is kept in a special safe place!”

Miss Venner is the second oldest resident of The Poplars (the oldest is 102), although staff are looking forward to celebrating one of their longest staying residents, Ernest, who will be marking his 80thbirthday with a party at the home this weekend.

The Poplars Care Centre is located on Tonbridge Road in Maidstone, with 56 bedrooms offering a friendly, family environment for persons over 65 with a range of needs, from respite and post-operative care to crisis intervention and emergency admissions.  The Poplars is part of the Forest Healthcare group of homes, which includes 12 individual homes throughout the South East of England.  For more information on The Poplars, please visit www.foresthc.com or call 08444 725 179.
