Gatespace Increases Flexibility For Billing of OSGi Services New Developers Toolkit reduces time-to-market for new services Las Vegas, Nev. - Consumer Electronics Show (CES) - Jan 6, 2001 - Gatespace, a provider of open standards based distributed service platforms for designing, developing, and delivering network based services, announced today the new version of its powerful development toolkit, SGADK (Service Gateway Application Developers Toolkit) 2.3. Gatespace's toolkit offers application/content providers, network operators, and service gateway manufacturers sophisticated functions for developing flexible charging models interfaced to billing systems, allowing them to apply the most efficient and accurate business model when charging for services. To illustrate how Gatespace brings flexibility to charging and billing, Gatespace is demonstrating an Internet "Pay-Per-Music" Service at CES 2001 in Las Vegas as one example of the ubiquitous network based services that can be developed using the SGADK 2.3. The Pay-Per-Music service runs on an OSGi (Open Services Gateway Initiative) residential gateway based on Gatespace's Distributed Service Platform. This services gives service providers the ability to charge for example in the following ways: * Pay per play * Pay once for a specific selection * Pay on a subscription basis "Gatespace's developers kit will significantly reduce time-to-market for new services, such as the Pay-Per-Music, and inspire service providers to generate additional revenue streams and attract new customers with a wider service offering," said Staffan Truvé, CEO of Gatespace. The SGADK 2.3 enables developers and operators of network based services to quickly develop, test and implement end-to-end services. As with all other Gatespace products, the SGADK 2.3 is designed to fully comply with the OSGi Specification 1.0. Being based on standard Java compilers, it is extremely portable, and can run on operating systems such as UNIX/Linux, Solaris, Windows and a number of RTOSs. The SGADK 2.3 supports JVMs such as J9 from OTI/IBM, JVM 1.3 on Linux, Java 2 Micro Edition, etc. Through the OSGi device access model, it can also support a variety of existing and emerging technologies for local networks, e.g. UPnP, Jini, LONWorks, X-10, CeBus, ShareWave, HAVi, HomeRF, HomePNA and Bluetooth.
