Austin, July 17, 2012 – Delbert is a yellow naped Amazon parrot, a species of bird famous for its ability to mimic human sounds. Delbert is no exception. He sings “Happy Birthday” shouts “Yee Haw” and even learned to copy the sound of someone sneezing. He also sings “Old Macdonald had a Farm.” The day he sang “with a buck, buck here and a buck, buck there” using the letter F instead of B, was the day his owner, professional animal trainer Barbara Heidenreich, knew someone had been using some expletives around her bird.

Austin, Nov 30, 2011 - Sirocco is one of 129 Kakapo left in the world. This large, flightless, nocturnal species of parrot is famous for unusual behavior. During breeding season the males plant themselves in small depressions in the ground called “bowls”. They puff up with air and emit a resonant boom for up to eight hours a night. The boom attracts a female who is eagerly pounced upon by the hormonally charged male Kakapo.
