Vetech is for versatile on GSF oil programme

GSF Car Parts report strong demand for their extended Vetech engine oil programme.

In an increasingly confusing market, GSF are urging garages to really understand the products they are buying. This means looking beyond the brand on the label, and particularly the price, to see what it is that actually ends up in customer engines.

“We’ve researched extensively to ensure Vetech has the range to fully match manufacturers’ lubricant specifications and that pricing is on point,” said GSF Car Parts Managing Director Jonny West. “Unfortunately, alternatives claiming to cover many specifications with a single product have to be inferior mismatches so garages should look at the true cost and the risk implications of this.

“It should only be on the most popular oils, where in certain cases the spec of some competitors' oil has to be brought into question, that GSF's Vetech oils may be more expensive.”

In these cases GSF suggest considering saving on barrels on a per job basis instead. Even if higher spec Vetech 10w40 semi comes in £25 per barrel more expensive to buy, that’s just £0.57 per service, on a 4.5 litre average fill.

“We realise it’s a competitive market for everyone right now,” added Jonny West. “Motorists, garages and even motor factors can all shop around, too often it’s then price that drives decisions without full appreciation of real costs.”

In fact, modern engines rely on increasingly precisely tailored lubricant formulations and ever tighter manufacturing tolerances to achieve stringent fuel consumption performance. This means apparent fractional savings on oil fill, like 57 pence over a 15,000 mile service interval in the example above, actually turn out to be a major false economy. Increased fuel use will obliterate and reverse these tiny initial savings, perhaps even on the customers first tank of fuel.

Then there are the risks; increased internal component wear, or expensive breakdowns, can all too easily result from incorrectly specified ‘universal’ engine oils. These deliver friction and resistance performance that fall outside an engine’s original design parameters, raising the spectre of entirely avoidable expensive repairs, not to mention warranty problems on newer vehicles.

GSF’s Vetech range of oils is supplied either in competitively priced barrels, delivered direct to garage within 48 hours, 20 litre drums or in 5 litre packs. Drums offer space savings and stock economy over barrels. Keeping just four types of Vetech oils typically offers around 90% car parc coverage say GSF. 1 litre top ups are also available for garages looking to sell boot packs.

Specialist lubricants like PD oils for VAG engines, long life formulations and the low SAPs lubricants which can be critical to minimising the risks of DPFs clogging are all available too.
