Charlotte Motor Speedway, North Carolina – Thursday, May 25, 2012; Scott-Eklund Racing, the fledgling privateer Global Rallycross Championship (GRC) team is delighted to announce the signing of Samuel Hübinette, backed by ENEOS Motor Oil, to complete its two-car Saab 9-3 attack on the opening GRC round at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Nicknamed the Crazy Swede, Hübinette joins Scott-Eklund Racing boasting an enviable CV stretching across the echelons of international motorsport. A bronze medalist at the 2010 X Games Super Rally, a renowned two-time Champion and two-time Vice-Champion Formula Drift star, the 40 year-old from Newport Beach, CA, is widely celebrated as the most winningest driver in FD series’ history.

The American citizen developed his taste for speed in his native Sweden, pushing snowmobiles, motorcycles and cars to their limits, while his rallycross experience dates back to when he was 16 years-old. A former Touring Car racer from 1997 to 2000, he spent nine years as a Volvo development test driver across Europe.

Hübinette also works as a stunt driver and has driven for major Hollywood films such as The Fast and The Furious franchise, Knight and Day and Crank 2.

Hailing from Jokkmokk, Sweden, Hübinette joins Scott-Eklund Racing on the eve of the team’s US debut GRC outing at the famed Charlotte Motor Speedway. In doing so, he lines-up alongside one of Europe’s best rallycross exports, Team Principal and lead driver Andy Scott, and his Swedish compatriot, rallycross legend and team Technical Director, Per Eklund, for the one-race deal in North Carolina.

Hübinette will hit the custom-built GRC track at Charlotte for the first time in the official practice and seeding sessions from 18.00 tomorrow (Friday), ahead of the first GRC round taking place after the HISTORY 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series Race on Saturday, May 26, as part of the Coca-Cola 600 race weekend.

Tickets for the HISTORY 300 and Global Rallycross double-header start at $25. Children 13 and under are admitted free. To purchase tickets, call the Charlotte Motor Speedway Ticket Office at 1-800-455-FANS (3267) or visit www.charlottemotorspeedway.com.

Samuel Hübinette, Scott-Eklund Racing Saab 9-3 with ENEOS Motor Oil, Car #77:

“I’m very excited to be getting involved with the Scott-Eklund Racing team, introducing my partner ENEOS Motor Oil to the Global Rallycross Championship. This is without doubt a very interesting deal, coming together so late just one day before competition starts. It really is a privilege to be involved with the legend that is Per Eklund, also from Sweden, who I grew up watching in rally and rallycross when I was a child.

“To be racing alongside Andy Scott, who is without question one of the quickest drivers in Europe, is also a privilege and I’m really looking forward to driving with him this weekend. I have not yet driven the Saab 9-3, which will be a great challenge for me. But together as a team we can get up to speed very quickly and with my experience we can hopefully look forward to a good result here at Charlotte Motor Speedway.”

Andy Scott, Scott-Eklund Racing Team Principal & driver, Car #26:

“It’s fantastic to have Samuel onboard with the Scott-Eklund Racing team ahead of our Global Rallycross Championship debut here at Charlotte. Samuel brings with him a fantastic racing pedigree and I’m sure his talents, paired with the Scott-Eklund Racing Saab 9-3, will only help reinforce that our privateer team can battle with the big boys and manufacturer teams.”

Per Eklund, Scott-Eklund Racing Technical Director:

“Samuel is a very strong driver and, racing alongside Andy, we now have two drivers capable of battling for Scott-Eklund Racing honours on the Global Rallycross podium. Samuel obviously hasn’t yet driven the car but I am confident that he will be impressed by the performance of the Saab 9-3 and quickly learn the car and the course.”
