Oxford (UK) – Friday, October 12, 2012; Fergus Walkinshaw will be aiming to end his first full Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup campaign with a string of strong results as the leading domestic sportscar championship heads to the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, on October 20&21, for its triple-header season finale.

A strong showing on home soil in the penultimate series rounds at Silverstone leaves the 21 year-old from Chipping Norton in fine form ahead of the final showdown. Running as high as sixth place, Walkinshaw provided one of the most prominent battles of the Ginetta GT Supercup field in round 24, commanding a race-long fight to retain seventh place from Century Motorsport teammate Hunter Abbott in style.

Despite lady luck not leaning on Walkinshaw’s side this year, the Association of Air Ambulances Motorsport Advocate has impressed on his first full racing campaign in three years. With valued support from new sponsors Keltruck Limited – the largest privately owned Scania dealer in the UK - and Itchy Feet European and American motorhomes for the last two rounds of the season, his eighth and seventh place results at Silverstone add to his tally of 15 top eight finishes so far.

Heading to the premier Kent circuit for the second time in 2012, Walkinshaw delivered an outstanding performance in the opening season event around the National layout back in April. Having taken his first Ginetta GT Supercup podium in round two, Walkinshaw was robbed of his inaugural race win when contact by Tom Sharp to the rear of his Ginetta G55 while leading round three punted him into a heavy accident.

Although Walkinshaw thankfully emerged unscathed, the incident totalled the sportscar he built single-handedly in just seven weeks at Ginetta HQ last summer, and required a complete rebuild before he could resume racing.

With unfinished business at Brands Hatch still in mind, the son of the late motorsport icon Tom Walkinshaw will be looking for a strong run around the 2.3 mile Grand Prix circuit to help cement his credible eighth place in the title fight.

Walkinshaw commented: “It’s hard to believe that we’re approaching the final series rounds, but I’m really looking forward to finishing this year on a high at Brands Hatch. The car felt great in the last race at Silverstone and I was able to put up a strong fight to defend my seventh place, so I’m hoping that we can carry that form into the final rounds.”

The Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup action at Brands Hatch kicks-off with qualifying at 11.20 on Saturday, October 20, followed by a 10-lap sprint race at 14.50. The first of two 14-lap races will take place at 10.40 on Sunday, with the final season battle set to go green at 16.00 shown live on ITV4.
