Mini Tattoo brings three international military bands to Helsinki

The Mini Tattoo military music festival will take place in Senate Square on Monday 30 July starting at 12noon. Traffic restrictions will be in place in the area during the festival.

The City of Helsinki and the Hamina Tattoo international military music festival are organising the Mini Tattoo festival in Senate Square on Monday 30 July starting at 12noon. Mini Tattoo will present a selection of the marching bands performing at this year’s Hamina Tattoo.

The approximately one-hour concert in Helsinki will feature performances by the Conscript Band of the Finnish Defence Forces, the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines CTCRM (UK), the Republic of Korea Ministry Of National Defence’s Traditional Band (South Korea) and the Band Of His Majesty The King’s Guard (Norway).

The joint performance of the bands will be conducted by Lieutenant Colonel (Mus.) Jyrki Koskinen, Chief Conductor of the Finnish Defence Forces, and the concert will be hosted by Mikael Konttinen.

The Hamina Tattoo international military music festival will take place in the historic quarter of Hamina from Monday 30 July to Saturday 4 August. The theme of this year’s festival is “100 Years of the Finnish Defence Forces”.

The first Mini Tattoo was organised in Helsinki in 1990. Since then, Hamina Tattoo has held its Mini Tattoo in the nation’s capital.

This event is free of charge.

 

Traffic restrictions during Mini Tattoo:

During the Mini Tattoo festival, traffic restrictions will be in place around Senate Square on Monday 30 July 2018 from 8am to 3pm. Traffic control equipment and traffic controllers will be used for the exceptional traffic arrangements.

Motor vehicles: Hallituskatu will be closed to traffic between Unioninkatu and Mariankatu. In addition, the northbound lane on Unioninkatu by Senate Square will be closed. Temporary traffic lights will be used on Snellmaninkatu by Hallituskatu.

Public transport: Public transport in the area will operate normally.

Bicycles: Senate Square will be fenced off as an event venue during the festival.

Pedestrians: Senate Square will be fenced off as an event venue during the festival.

Bus stop: The Hop On – Hop Off sightseeing bus will not stop at Senate Square during the festival. The departure point will instead be on Unioninkatu by Esplanade Park.
