HiQ has been helping Volvo Cars to develop safer cars in the Non-Hit Car and Truck project for around four years. By creating a 360-degree field of vision around the vehicle, the car will, for example, be able to break and steer on its own to prevent accidents.

Volvo Cars has the vision that in 2020, no one will die or be seriously injured when traveling in a Volvo. The Non-Hit Car and Truck project is yet another step for Volvo Cars and HiQ in developing the safe cars of the future.

”This is a great example of how we work with the forthcoming safety systems in vehicles. Thanks to a camera and several radar sensors, Volvo vehicles will now be able to sense the surroundings around the car. We have been a leading partner in the project, responsible for developing the sensor integration as well as risk assessment. HiQ’s positive development within the automotive industry means that we will employ more experts in this area,” says Jerker Lindstén at HiQ.

The technology will help the vehicle to identify threats in its surroundings, which would otherwise not be recognized. This will prevent many accidents in the future.

”Volvo Cars and its partner HiQ is definitely at the frontline when it comes to innovative active safety. Together, we work persistently to bring down the number of accidents. As we now reach the end of this project, we are closer to our target of reducing the number of fatalities to zero by the year 2020,” says Anders Almevad, project manager for Non-Hit Car and Truck.

”The development in the automotive industry is really exciting. Volvo Cars is at the forefront of developing safer, connected and more fun vehicles, and it makes me happy and proud that HiQ is an important partner to this innovative vehicle manufacturer,” Lars Stugemo at HiQ concludes.
