Hyper Island has appointed a new CEO to develop the educational models of tomorrow, taking the 20-year-old company into its next phase of expansion. Sofia Wingren has many years of experience from the worldwide educational organization EF Education First and will assume her new position at Hyper Island in September.

“This is a milestone for Hyper Island. Sofia brings a very strong and inclusive leadership in combination with extensive experience from leading and growing companies worldwide. It is exactly what we need,” said Fredrik Månsson, Chairman of Hyper Island.

Hyper Island has contributed to digital transformation with both expertise and talent for 20 years and has great ambitions to continue to drive development in education, both in Sweden and internationally. Over the years, the company has grown globally, with campuses today in five countries. After beginning as a Vocational School, the business has been complemented over the years with consulting services in digital development for companies and individuals.

“We are a Swedish company that has expanded in an agile and entrepreneurial way with the opportunities that have arisen for us. Now, we have reached the size where we need the right leadership to drive our mission strategically, commercially and long term,” said Fredrik Månsson.

Over the last 13 years, Sofia has had leadership roles in education on a global playing field with Hong Kong and Switzerland as bases.

“It is extremely exciting and flattering to accept this challenge as CEO at Hyper Island. The digital transformation we all experience is very much about people and development and that’s where I have a lot to bring. I look forward with pleasure to learning Hyper Island’s perspective on education and the competencies of tomorrow,” said Sofia Wingren, incoming CEO of Hyper Island.

During her many years abroad, Sofia has worked with multicultural, often geographically dispersed teams, leading operations through profitable growth in many countries. With a focus on language and education -- often in combination -- in sales and marketing roles aimed at both professionals and young learners, she brings with her a good understanding of the challenges and possibilities in various markets.

Sofia will assume the role of CEO in September 2016. Until then, Charlotte Sundåker will lead operations as acting CEO.
