Belarusian Universities in QS World Rankings
On Wednesday, October 21, the Quacquarelli Symonds (QC) agency published QS University Rankings: EECA 2015 – a dedicated ranking of the top higher education institutions in Emerging Europe and Central Asia. This year, two Belarusian universities were listed, with the Belarusian State University (BSU) ranked 36th and the Belarusian National Technical University (BNTU) at the 72nd place. The agency reviewed more than 500 universities and included the best ones in its top 150 list. Last year, BSU was at the 38th place and BNTU was in the 71–80 segment.
The evaluation of higher education institutions is carried out on various criteria, such as academic reputation, reputation among employers, the ratio of students to the number of employees of the teaching staff, and the proportion of foreign students.
For the second consecutive year, the first place is taken by the Lomonosov Moscow State University. The Novosibirsk State University and Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, occupy the second and the third positions respectively. Russia is represented by the biggest number of universities in the ranking, as 48 education institutions from the country made the list.
The QC EECA ranking consists of Eastern European countries, Turkey, CIS, and Baltic states.
Earlier this year, BSU was also included in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings, where it is placed in the 601–800 group. BSU is the only Belarusian university in the list.
