LIVERPOOL’s legal community certainly did not walk alone after more than 100 people turned out for the very first Liverpool Legal Walk.

Starting in front of the Royal Liver Building and finishing on Derby Square by the QE11 Law Courts, a total of 19 teams took part in the 5km charity stroll which proved to be a great success.

Organised by Chris Walker of Scott Rees & Co Solicitors and law graduate Rachael Robinson on behalf of the North West Legal Support Trust, the charity walk is expected to have raised approximately £2,000.

Lead walkers included the Recorder of Liverpool, His Honour Judge Clement Goldstone QC, Ruth Daniel, Chief Executive of Access to Justice Foundation, Steve Cornforth, President of the Liverpool Law Society, Anne-Marie Dhillon, NWLST Trustee, and Leader of the Northern Circuit, Richard Pratt QC.

Teams included Palmyra Chambers, Canter Levin and Berg Solicitors, Brabners Chaffe Street Solicitors, Exchange Chambers, Jackson Canter Solicitors, Merseyside Civil and Family Judges, MSB Solicitors, Scott Rees & Co Solicitors, Weightmans LLP, EAD Solicitors, Liverpool Law Society, KUC, Tracey Miller Family Law, Young Legal Aid Lawyers, SJL Quality, St John’s Buildings, The Law Academy and the College of aw in Chester.

There was also support from student lawyers from the Liverpool University Law School and the LJMU Law School.

Dinah Crystal, Chair of the North West Legal Trust (NWLST) said the funds from the walk would help support the most disadvantaged members of society.

“I would like to thank everyone who took part in the first Liverpool Legal Walk – it was a great effort by all and we can now build on this success for the future.

“The charities supported by the NWLST help facilitate access to justice for the poorest and most disadvantaged members of society providing free legal help to people facing problems such as homelessness, debt, employment, family issues, discrimination and injustice.”

Chris Walker, who leads Scott Rees’ Catastrophic Injuries department and is also Chairman of the Liverpool branch of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives, said: “The very first Liverpool Legal Walk was a great success, and I’m very pleased that so many people took part.

“Echoing the words of Judge Goldstone QC who gave a short speech, next year we must seek to triple and quadruple our support to make it an even greater success.”
