Glasgow Credit Union has been announced as a finalist in the Business of the Year category in next month’s Association of Scottish Businesswomen Awards.

At the helm of this organisation is Chief Executive June Walker, a driving force behind the growth of the credit union, and a strong advocate of the ‘people before profit’ ethos that has helped the financial mutual gain their loyal customer base.

In recent  years,  Glasgow Credit Union has proven itself as a viable alternative to mainstream finance, providing low cost loans, a healthy return on savings, and innovative mortgage products to over 31,000 customers.  Since the 2008 credit crunch, the number of consumers using its services has almost doubled, making them the most successful credit union in the UK.

As well as rivalling the traditional high street savings and loans providers, the credit union is also vocal in its stance against payday lending.

A spokesperson for Glasgow Credit Union said: “In a historically male-dominated industry such as financial services, we’re proud to have our position as a highly successful, female-led business recognised by the Association of Scottish Businesswomen.  Every accolade of this sort highlights our services to more and more consumers and, we hope, inspires them to look into how the services we provide could help them personally.”

Winners will be announced at the ASB Awards on Friday 30th August.
