Specialty Films Manufacturer Undergoes Potential Analysis

Forchheim – By 2020, Infiana wants to reduce energy consumption by 10% compared to its 2012 usage. In doing so, the company continues to pursue a course defined by its corporate values. That the specialty films manufacturer is making positive progress towards its goal has now been confirmed by an energy potential analysis. The study was carried out by the Energieberatung AG in the context of an energy management system first introduced at Infiana 3 years ago.

Energy usage precisely identified

In an initial consumption analysis, all energy systems and points of use were identified. In doing so, potential savings could be pinpointed and suggestions for optimization offered. Areas for improvement at Infiana include insulation and waste heat usage. “We at Infiana place great importance on energy efficiency. Using our resources responsibly is key in this regard; this is the only way we can achieve our own ambitious targets while protecting our environment,” notes Michael Seifert, Engineering Head and Energy Management Officer. Implementing the study’s findings would reduce the company’s total energy costs by at least 10 percent.

Study contrasts economic and environmental goals

The assessment offers economic as well as environmental perspectives. An analysis of the local status quo was carried out, the results of which were condensed into an action plan and presented to senior management. Initial measures for improving energy efficiency – better insulation and energy-saving pump controls – have already been implemented at Infiana; others are currently in the planning stages.

Free State of Bavaria supports initiative for energy efficiency

Up to 40% of the costs of establishing a total energy concept for Infiana are covered by the Bavarian State Ministry for Economy and Media, Energy, and Technology through BayINVENT, a program for promoting innovative energy technology and energy efficiency. Through this initiative, the Bavarian state government supports businesses in their efforts to operate in a sustainable and energy-efficient manner.
