Our founder Christoph Langhammer appointed FutureResearch Leader

Associate Professor Christoph Langhammer at Chalmers University of Technology is one of 20 Swedish researchers who have been selected  for the Future Research Leaders of the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research. The twenty researchers share a total of SEK 240 million . Associate Professor Langhammer’s project aims at achieving "The plasmonic nano-sensor's holy grail".

This is the third major personal grant Christoph Langhammer has received in a short time together with an ERC Starting Grant and a Wallenberg Academy Fellowship. This further strengthens his positions one of the most qualified young researchers at Chalmers University of Technology and in Sweden.

Christoph Langhammer will use the money to achieve "the plasmonic nano-sensor’s holy grail" through research that uniquely combines nanofluidics and nanoplasmonic. He explains: "The ability to detect very small amounts of molecules is important in chemistry, biology, medicine, environmental monitoring, and for civil and military security purposes. It has been found difficult to detect single molecules at very low concentrations – A problem that the project seeks to solve. "

The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) is funding research in natural science, engineering and medicine with about SEK 600 million a year. SSF is a free, independent player in the public research funding system. The research must be of the highest possible quality, but also able to be utilized within Swedish industry and society in general.

Now SSF has appointed the sixth generation of Future Research Leaders. The program targets Swedish and foreign young researchers, who conduct research at the highest international level. Twenty beneficiaries will receive SEK 12 million for independent research which is expected to result in even larger constellations in the future. Therefore, there is also a leadership program included for the young researchers.
