The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) has called on G20 Finance ministers to drive investment of at least 2% of GDP in the green economy in the wake of independent economic analysis forecasting the potential for green jobs growth.

The Millennium Institute green investment model shows how new investments of 2% of GDP in just six G20 countries, in each of the next five years, could create up to 42 million jobs.

International Union Campaign - Give the gift of a day off for your domestic worker this holiday
Hundreds of domestic workers from countries including the Philippines, Nepal and Indonesia will clean the streets and polish the railings in front of the European Parliament, to call on MEPs to give 53 million domestic workers better rights including one day off a week and an eight hour working day.

“If MEPs will let domestic workers into their house, why not into the law?” said Sharan Burrow, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation.

The USTR action follows a request submitted by the AFL-CIO. The European Union has so far refused to take similar action, even though its rules for trade preferences have stronger labour standards for beneficiary countries than does the US.
