WorldNames, Inc. selects .SE to assume responsibility for registry services of .nu
WorldNames, Inc., the registry operator and manager for the .nu top level domain since 1998, has selected .SE (The Internet Infrastructure Foundation), to operate .nu domain's registry services, including administration and technical operations. The change will not affect holders of .nu domains.
WorldNames will continue to operate its retail domain name registration services at NuNames.nu, which is one of Sweden's two largest .nu Registrars, according to WorldNames.
"WorldNames reviewed proposals from several established operators of top level domain name Registries over the past several months," said J. William Semich, WorldNames' founder and CEO. "We selected .SE because of its highly proficient and trustworthy technical infrastructure and its dominant presence in the Nordic markets for domain names, particularly in Sweden, which has been the primary market for .nu domains over the past 15 years. Most of the large Registrars in Sweden also have longstanding relationships both with WorldNames and with .SE, which will make for a smooth and straightforward transition."
The agreement with WorldNames solely means that. SE is responsible for the operation and administration of the .nu top-level domain. The relationship between ICANN (Internet Cooperation for Assigned Names and Numbers) and The IUSN Foundation as the delegated manager for the .nu top level domain will remain unchanged.
"I’m both proud and happy that .SE has been given the trust to operate the registry services for .nu, which we will manage with great care. In the nearest future, we will spend our time and resources in preparing for the transition in collaboration with WorldNames and our registrars. Naturally, we will ensure that those involved will get all the information and support necessary," said Danny Aerts, CEO of .SE.
The date for the transition is not yet determined. More information will follow in early 2013.
