The National Health Service in the East of England launched Visimeet to better diagnose stroke patients who could benefit from the use of thrombolytic drugs, which are used to breakdown blood clots in the brain. Due to the time sensitivity of administrating these drugs, and the need for constant monitoring once taken, doctors with the NHS no longer have to be by the patients side observe them. Instead, they can view live brain scans on mobile computer carts, desktops, laptops, or other devices.
“I was worried that patients would not like being seen over a computer, but they loved it,” said Diana Day, Stroke Nurse Consultant for the East of England Stroke Network. “For each patient who is able to live independently after their stroke as a result of timely thrombolysis, we save the NHS £30,000 in the first year.”
