ISG Takes the LEED with Platinum Pinners Hall Project

ISG’s latest scheme for a large European investment bank has been awarded the ultimate sustainability standard of LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) Platinum accreditation, making it one of only four UK projects to have been certified with the award.

Bestowed by the US Green Building Council (the US equivalent of BREEAM), the LEED accreditation scheme considers design, location and construction elements on a point system to award ‘Certified’, ‘Bronze’, ‘Silver’, ‘Gold’ or ‘Platinum’ certifications, depending on the project’s sustainability achievements. ISG’s 12,000 ft2 cat B fit out of the bank’s Level One offices at Pinners Hall in London is the latest in a number of ISG projects to win LEED certification around the world, and the scheme was also shortlisted as a finalist in this year’s BCO (British Council of Offices) Awards in the ‘Best Fit Out of a Workplace’ category.

Designed to assist the investment bank’s expansion programme, the project saw ISG take the building from shell and core to create contemporary, open-plan office accommodation with a series of glazed cellular suites. The fit out followed the design layout of the bank’s other offices within the building, with the project including a full mechanical and electrical installation.

The client originally set out to achieve Silver LEED accreditation for the project and ISG’s early engagement with the supply chain was instrumental in the project securing the highest level of LEED accreditation. The core emphasis on sustainability was driven forward by a specially-appointed ISG sustainability team who held workshops with the supply chain to keep implementation on track and met regularly with LEED accredited professionals, Davis Langdon, to ensure the sustainability programme remained on target.

Recycled and locally sourced materials were important factors in meeting the project’s sustainability criteria, along with the environmentally responsible use of timber and the chemical content of paints, coatings, adhesives and sealants used on site. ISG was also required to manage indoor air quality and complete an air purge prior to handover.

Paul Cossell, managing director of ISG Fit Out, commented: “We were originally tasked with achieving LEED Silver certification for the Pinners Hall scheme but, thanks to the close co-operation of our site and sustainability team, we were able to drive up these expectations to achieve the ultimate Platinum accreditation. Our approach involved management and motivation of the entire delivery chain and provides a clear example of what can be achieved within an existing building when sustainability is put at the heart of all design, purchasing and construction practices.”
