New Integrated Offering Enables Seamless Provider-to-Patient-Portal Health Information Exchange Using Direct Messaging

Kodak Alaris, Access My Records and Inofile collaborate on a solution that helps providers qualify for financial incentives, while delivering better patient outcomes

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 29—Providing patients with access to their health records electronically, via a “patient portal,” delivers a number of benefits that improve the transitions of care from one healthcare provider to another. A successful portal is instrumental in educating patients about their health, and removes barriers to easy interaction between providers, patients and family members.

For healthcare providers, making patient information available via a portal within four days of treatment is an important part of Meaningful Use 2 (MU2) compliance. But securely sending and receiving patient data that originates from various content sources is an ongoing challenge for many providers. To address this issue and to help facilitate provider adoption of patient portal systems, Kodak Alaris has partnered with Access My Records (AMR) and Inofile to create a comprehensive solution for health information exchange between physicians, care providers and patients. The solution solves workflow challenges and enables secure, standards-based patient information exchange, contributing to HIPAA compliance. It also provides a method to replace faxing with the addition of document scanners from Kodak Alaris and Kno2 software from Inofile.

This turnkey solution enables doctors to easily Direct Message unstructured and structured patient information as a Continuity of Care Document (CCD) or Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) to the AMR Patient Portal, whether they are using an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, a paper-based system, or a hybrid system. As data is received from multiple facilities or practices, it is automatically organized into the AMR Patient Portal. This gives patients a complete view of their detailed health information from participating physicians, service care providers and other sources within an organized, search-friendly platform.

“Kodak Alaris announced its new ConnectCare Solutions portfolio for the healthcare industry at HIMSS14 earlier this year,” said Jody Miller, Director of Healthcare Solutions, Kodak Alaris.  “At the same time, we also unveiled Direct Health Messaging with Inofile’s Kno2 software.  Now, thanks to our new partnership with Access My Records, AMR’s Auto-Create patient portal solution extends that functionality by giving our customers the ability to share health records with their patients using AMR’s ONC-certified patient portal.”

Combining Kodak Alaris’ ConnectCare Solution (www.kodakalaris.com/go/connectcarenews) featuring Inofile’s Kno2 software with AMR’s patient portal solution, the end-to-end offering transforms scanned paper healthcare documents into structured electronic patient information that can be transmitted using Direct Messaging within the DirectTrust framework, exchanged among providers, and viewed and shared by patients. Direct Messaging is a new, secure, standards-based method of exchanging patient information and transitioning patients between care providers.

“Our solutions revolutionize patient data exchange for the healthcare industry and provide a unique value to our partners, like Kodak Alaris, while offering providers a comprehensive portal solution that directly engages their patients,” said Leonard Tambasco, CEO, Access My Records. “By collaborating with Kodak Alaris and Inofile, we’re collectively offering a turnkey data exchange solution that creates greater flexibility and compliance for healthcare providers seeking options to efficiently and cost-effectively implement a patient portal for health information exchange.”
