Press release

With still more than 3 months to go, delegates from all over the world are signing up at an accelerated rate for Nordic Life Science Days 2017 – up by 30% compared to May last year pointing to yet another all-time high number of delegates. The core concept is still the same, a combined conference, partnering and exhibition event with lots of opportunities for networking. The partnering activities have doubled over the last four years and in 2016, 12,000 meeting requests were recorded and 2,200 meetings scheduled.

“The Nordic region is home to several hundred entrepreneurially-driven companies within drug development and other sectors of life science. For example, last year’s pipeline report on drug development activities in Sweden presented a record-high 367 projects, of which 60% were preclinical.  Thus, the current trend for pharma companies to look for collaborations earlier and earlier in the value chain makes NLSDays increasingly relevant as a life science partnering event.”, says Jonas Ekstrand, Director General, SwedenBIO, the Swedish life science industry organization which founded the event four years ago. “And, as a special feature this year, we will be holding both an Academic’s Catwalk and a Startups’ Challenge to showcase some of these projects.”

The conference program

Small drug companies in the early phases of development typically rely on sub-contracting their product development rather than investing internally. Especially in the Nordics, this has created a demand for excellence when it comes to expert services.  One of the Four Deep Dive Super Sessions highlights the key role of expert services providers and how many of them are now investing heavily in their own research to be able to meet the needs of an increasingly competitive market and how this has created an efficient drug development eco-system in the Nordics.

The other three Deep Dive Super sessions cover cutting edge approaches and methodologies for Regenerative Medicine, Digital Health and Infectious Diseases and Vaccines.

A couple of Disease-Focused Super Sessions cover Diabetes and Immunomodulatory approaches to Oncology respectively. The sessions gather experts with complementary expertise to present and discuss recent approaches within these areas.

Another two Super Sessions focus on financing issues. One is about discussing solutions to the dilemma that some of biopharma’s promising clinical trials are being moved down the priority list and their execution delayed – can complementary trials be packaged together and can other players come in to fund these? The other super session covers novel approaches to solving the continuing challenge, early financing.

The super sessions are all backed by workshops and company presentations showcasing the vast number of innovative companies in the Nordic region.

Pre-conference visits

There will also be a pre-conference fringe on September 12thwith two main events. First a coach tour to Lund, only 20 km outside Malmö to visit the recently inaugurated MAX IV facility and the under construction ESS. And then, don’t miss the Academic’s Catwalk and the Startups’ Challenge just before the Welcome Get Together.
