Liepaja, 2012-09-13 13:05 CEST (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Clarifying the information
in the mass media on production volumes, Joint Stock Company “Liepajas
Metalurgs” informs that during eight months of 2012 it produced 567 000 tons of
steel but before the modernization the production volume with Siemens-Martin
furnaces did not exceed 560 000 tons per year. 

The production capacity of the new electric arc furnace is 865 000 tons of
steel billets per year, and since the day when the electric arc furnace
produced its first heat – 17th August 2011 – up to 17th August 2012 (inclusive)
the company’s new Melt Shop produced 694 000 tons of steel. 

Duration of one heat (tap to tap time) in the new electric arc furnace is
aprox. 50 minutes, whereas in the Siemens-Martin furnaces the duration of one
heat was 7,5 hours. 27 to 29 heats are produced in the company’s Melt Shop
every day.
