Graduate's success at annual awards

School of Law LLB Law alumna, Gemma Ellison was awarded the LJMU-sponsored Junior Lawyer Award at the recent Liverpool Law Society annual awards, which took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Liverpool.

Gemma, who graduated from LJMU in 2010, is a family law solicitor at Jackson Canter and was awarded the prize by Dr David Lowe, LLB Programme Leader at the School of Law.

Here is what the independent judging panel had to say about Gemma:

The Junior Lawyer Award category was particularly strong. Gemma Ellison, from Jackson Canter's Family Law department, is a newly qualified solicitor who has chosen to specialise in child care and private law children disputes. The judges were very impressed with Gemma's work in a challenging area of legal practice. She has shown outstanding competence, whilst working with clients with mental health issues, learning disabilities, alcohol or drug dependencies, or who have been the victims of violence and abuse. In all instances, Gemma has demonstrated both great passion for her work and genuine sensitivity for her clients' needs.

Commenting on the prize, Dr Lowe said:

"Congratulations go to Gemma who has moved into a challenging area of the law, and is proving to be a real asset for Jackson Canter – we’re very proud of her and wish her all the best for her future.
